Role Summary:

The Registered Nurse - Clinical Nurse Coordinator is an integral member of a multidisciplinary care team, providing patient-centered care with a focus on nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess patients' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, evaluating their adaptation to health changes.
  • Develop individualized care plans based on patients' conditions, symptoms, and treatment responses.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment options, side effects, and symptom management.
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless continuity of care.
  • Refer patients and families to additional clinical resources as necessary.
  • Implement, evaluate, and adjust care plans as needed.
  • Incorporate research and evidence-based practices into clinical care.

Direct Patient Care:
  • Provide education on chemotherapy, central lines, injections, and home care.
  • Conduct telephone and email symptom triage.
  • Perform dressing changes, administer medications, and give injections.
  • Orient new patients to the care process.
  • Support caregivers and assess needs for additional resources.
  • Manage prescription refills and review test results.

Indirect Patient Care:
  • Facilitate supportive care referrals.
  • Assist with FMLA and disability paperwork.
  • Coordinate external clinical care and ensure continuity with outside providers.
  • Collaborate with research teams for patients participating in clinical trials.

Communication and Teamwork:
  • Participate in regular team meetings with healthcare providers and nursing staff.
  • Coordinate care with ancillary services and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Manage patient schedules in collaboration with the clinic team.
  • Address and escalate issues in real-time within the clinic environment.

Professional Development:
  • Document all nursing activities accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain knowledge of patient privacy rights.
  • Engage in continuing education, departmental projects, and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or multistate RN license.
  • Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card or equivalent, with renewal every two years.
  • Critical thinking and clinical judgment skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
  • Strong communication skills, including active listening and clarity in information delivery.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or BMT RN certification.
  • Two years of experience in oncology nursing.
  • Experience in telephone triage and outpatient clinic settings.
  • Demonstrated initiative and strong multitasking abilities.

The compensation for this role ranges from $43.38 to $81.93 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Registered Nurses are compensated on a step-scale basis and may receive additional pay for shift differentials and other premiums.
