Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Research Nurse to join our team at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. As a Clinical Research Nurse, you will play a critical role in supporting clinical research patients treated at our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a balance between patient care, protocol requirements, and compliance.
  • Utilize clinical research nursing expertise to advocate for patients as needed.
  • Provide nursing and clinical operations expertise to research teams.
  • Partner with clinic nursing and study teams to provide research-specific patient and family education.
  • Assist investigators and study teams in pre-screening patients and confirming eligibility.
  • Support investigators and study teams in adverse event assessments and documentation.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with clinic nurses for symptom management and clinical follow-up.
  • Assist in Serious Adverse Event Reporting.
  • Document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and include research protocol details for data entry and compliance.
  • Support investigators and study teams in reviewing and documenting concomitant medications.
  • Reconcile protocol-required medication diaries.
  • Support research coordinators in protocol-required clinic visits.
  • Support Principal Investigators (PIs) in ensuring patient safety and protocol compliance.
  • Communicate investigational medication holds/modifications to patients as delegated by PIs.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with multi-disciplinary teams as needed.
  • Provide research education to clinical staff as appropriate.
  • Inform investigators and study staff of institutional policies and procedures that support protocol compliance, patient safety, and clinical operations efficiencies.
  • Identify problems or obstacles in research operations and communicate to the CORS Nurse Manager and study investigators.
  • Participate in study-required monitoring visits.
Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree required.
  • Minimum 3 years of recent oncology experience.
  • Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or multistate RN license.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated skills in critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated process improvement mindset.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets.
  • Experience in the care of oncology patients.
  • Experience with clinical research preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate in nursing preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years research experience preferred.
  • Certification in Oncology Nursing (OCN), BMTCN, AOCN, AOCNS.
