This position involves conducting Child Life assessments and interventions independently for a designated patient demographic, adhering to the established protocols of the department and healthcare facility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement a tailored care plan that addresses the unique needs of each patient.
  • Provide emotional and developmental support to patients, fostering coping mechanisms and facilitating adjustment to hospitalization.
  • Extend assistance to family members, respecting their cultural values and individual needs.
  • Exhibit expertise in caring for pediatric patients, including adolescents and young adults, as well as neonates when necessary.
  • Deliver information and effective strategies to families, considering the long-term implications of various diagnoses.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation in compliance with departmental policies and relevant standards.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, contributing valuable insights regarding patient treatment.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training, sharing knowledge with the department through in-service presentations.
  • Work towards achieving departmental goals and objectives.
  • Educate families and children about diagnoses and treatments to enhance understanding and mitigate trauma during hospitalization.
  • Utilize stress management techniques to support adaptive coping during medical procedures and throughout the hospital experience.
  • Prepare children and families for diagnostic and treatment procedures using developmentally appropriate and accurate information, ensuring emotional support is provided.
  • Facilitate medical play opportunities for children to explore and express their feelings, helping them gain a sense of control over their hospitalization.
  • Assess the need for therapeutic, developmental, and recreational play, providing appropriate interventions.

Qualifications: A minimum of 600 hours of Child Life internship experience in accordance with ACLP standards is required.
