Electronic Security Systems Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

The Design Engineer (DE) plays a vital role within the Project Engineering Electronic Security Systems (ESS) team, contributing significantly to client design initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Manager for Project Engineering, the DE will support the entire design project lifecycle, from conceptual sales to detailed design development, and from construction documentation to administrative support during construction.

As a technical resource, you will be crucial in identifying and fulfilling client and system requirements, collaborating with various support teams to bring your designs to fruition. With access to advanced technology and tools, you will be empowered to articulate and deliver your designs effectively.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborating on complex projects and working directly with clients and the Design Engineering team to establish specifications, designs, budgets, and timelines.
  • Conceptualizing system designs and determining necessary system requirements.
  • Providing technical expertise and coordination for the architecture, installation, and planning of electronic security solutions.
  • Preparing project estimates and proposals.
  • Creating Bills of Materials (BOM) and supporting documentation.
  • Developing detailed design drawings at various project stages.
  • Researching and recommending technology options for clients.
  • Engaging with clients and contributing to project performance metrics.
  • Understanding project lifecycles and maintaining client relationships.
  • Staying updated on industry trends through publications, trade shows, and educational forums.
  • Guiding junior personnel in engineering projects and resolving issues.
  • Participating in manufacturer training and continuing education.

Complexity:

The DE will collaborate with other engineers and sales leadership to assess resource needs. This role may involve billable work post-sales, as well as presales efforts, team management, and administrative tasks. The DE team will tackle the most intricate systems and client requirements.

Physical Demands:

This role typically involves working in standard office conditions, with occasional exposure to construction site environments. Employees are responsible for their safety on job sites and must adhere to all safety regulations. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is generally required on-site.

Travel Requirements:

Occasional travel by car and air may be necessary. A valid driver's license is required, and mileage will be reimbursed at the corporate rate.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM, and MS Office 365.
  • Certifications or training in relevant security technologies are required or preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical systems design.
  • Ability to obtain a government-issued Top Secret Clearance (US-based only).
  • Strong understanding of project phases and the construction process.
