Role Overview

As the Lead Control Systems Engineer, you will oversee a team of service technicians, ensuring the maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) control systems to optimize operational efficiency. You will collaborate with the Operations Maintenance team to devise solutions for complex challenges and manage various projects. Additionally, you will play a key role in training and mentoring both service and contract technicians.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a safe working environment by adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Diagnose and adjust software applications for material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers, and utilize the Allen Bradley Controllogix and Compactlogix PLC platforms with the RSLogix 5000 software suite. This includes managing industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, AS-I, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for the control system technician teams, effectively addressing downtime issues with vendors or headquarters to restore equipment functionality.
  • Utilize your expertise in material handling and electronic control systems to enhance the utilization of building systems.
  • Monitor MHE performance metrics and collaborate with Controls Technicians and Mechanics to troubleshoot electrical issues affecting performance.
  • Work closely with Facility Operations leadership, equipment suppliers, and parts vendors to plan and coordinate the installation of new technologies, acting as the technical advisor for capital projects.
  • Communicate technical challenges and project timelines with building leadership, operations, and maintenance teams, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of system impacts.
  • Develop and implement training programs for Control Systems Technicians.
  • Be prepared for travel up to 20% as needed.
Essential Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Electronic Technology or equivalent experience.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with computers and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Over 5 years of experience with Motor Controls (including motor starters, variable frequency drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components).
  • More than 5 years of experience with Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) programming.
  • At least 3 years of experience with SCADA systems and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • 3+ years of experience supporting various conveyor and sortation systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management capabilities.
  • Experience with Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • 1+ year of experience working with Allen Bradley systems.
  • 1+ years of experience in maintaining and troubleshooting robotic systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements such as bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Capable of lifting components and tools weighing approximately 20 pounds, with occasional weights up to 49 pounds.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for manual tasks.
  • Work conditions may involve small spaces, exposure to dust, fumes, temperature variations, noise, vibration, and standing on concrete for extended periods.
