Key Responsibilities
The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is an integral member of the Float Team, assisting healthcare providers, nursing leadership, registered nurses, and other team members. The Float Pool is designed to address staffing shortages on a daily basis.

The PCA will be assigned to various nursing units based on the needs of the organization and their individual competencies. Responsibilities include:
  • Participating in initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of care for veteran patients, including fall and pressure sore prevention.
  • Ensuring patients are wearing the correct identification wristbands.
  • Maintaining compliance with all required education, including TMS, BLS, HIPAA, and Privacy training.
  • Supervising patients and mentoring other PCAs in personal hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
  • Assisting patients with daily living activities and promoting their independence.
  • Contributing to a safe and therapeutic environment for both patients and staff.
  • Providing care to patients in isolation and those on chemotherapy precautions while ensuring privacy.

Clinical Duties
The PCA will perform various clinical tasks, including:
  • Measuring and recording vital signs, EKGs, and other basic assessments.
  • Maintaining oxygen therapy as directed.
  • Preparing patients for tests, examinations, and treatments.
  • Collecting specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Initiating emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Observing and reporting changes in patients' physical and mental conditions.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Education or training relevant to the PCA role.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Work Schedule
This position may require night shifts or weekend availability. Telework is not an option for this role.
