Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Broadcast Engineer to join our team at KQED. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our broadcast radio station equipment, including transmitters, antennas, and automation systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain broadcast radio equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Respond to equipment outages and technical problems in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Conduct routine diagnostic testing and document maintenance activities to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Troubleshoot broadcast equipment issues to the board level, utilizing your expertise in IT and networking.
  • Provide IT support to users with varying experience, ensuring seamless integration with our digital audio delivery and streaming technologies.
  • Stay up-to-date with FCC Rules and Regulations, ensuring compliance and adherence to industry standards.
  • Assist in maintaining station transmitter and EAS Logs, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with FM and HD transmitters, with a strong understanding of digital audio delivery and streaming technologies.
  • Proficiency in IT and networking, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Exceptional time management skills and multitasking abilities, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools like Excel, Word, and Google Docs, with the ability to create clear and concise reports.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and provide on-call support 24/7 in case of equipment failure.

Desired Experience:

  • Familiarity with production and newsroom asset management systems, such as Dalet Galaxy.
  • Experience with automated master control systems, digital routing systems, and consoles.
  • Proficiency in remote PC access tools, industry-standard DAWs, and digital audio standards.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and Visio, with the ability to create detailed technical drawings and diagrams.
