The salary for this role is set at $5, $7,916.67 monthly ($64, $95,000 annually), based on qualifications and is non-negotiable.

San Diego State University Research Foundation is dedicated to producing and disseminating educational, cultural, and informational content across public television, radio, and online platforms, serving the San Diego community. Our organization also engages in various telecommunications activities beyond traditional broadcasting.

The Operations and Technology Division is tasked with overseeing the infrastructure and technical facilities essential for electronic media production, recording, and transmission. This department also provides technical assistance to other areas within the university as needed.

The Broadcast Systems Engineer will be an integral part of a team responsible for the upkeep of audio and video broadcasting systems, datacasting, and computer equipment utilized in the transmission and reception of radio and television signals. This role ensures compliance with Federal Communication Commission regulations and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, operate, and maintain technical equipment throughout the facilities (70%).
  • Respond to emergencies related to equipment or facility failures (10%).
  • Maintain detailed inventory and repair documentation (1%).
  • Provide recommendations for purchasing equipment and supplies (4%).
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to share information and collaborate on projects (10%).
  • Perform other duties as assigned (5%).

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

  • Associate degree in a relevant field or equivalent technical training and experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • At least three years of experience in radio and/or television engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification from the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with computer networks and systems used in broadcasting.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD software.
  • Understanding of RF transmission systems.
