Position Overview

This is a part-time, hourly role that does not include benefits. The starting pay for this position is $20.57 per hour.

As a Senior Catering Chef, you will be responsible for executing event plans as directed by Catering Chefs, ensuring seamless operations from start to finish in their absence. This includes managing the back-of-house (BOH) staff during events, as well as handling the logistics of food transport across campus. Your duties will encompass all aspects of preparation, cooking, serving, and post-event clean-up, in accordance with Catertrax orders and guidance from the full-time catering team. Typical workdays are scheduled from Tuesday to Saturday.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure food is prepared, stored, and served in compliance with all relevant sanitation, health, and hygiene standards, utilizing supplies and equipment efficiently to minimize waste. Knowledge of Serve Safe guidelines is essential.
  • Exhibit advanced kitchen skills and a thorough understanding of kitchen terminology and equipment usage.
  • Collaborate with catering chefs to review production sheets and Catertrax menus, preparing food items according to recipes and in sufficient quantities as instructed.
  • Maintain clear communication with all BOH and front-of-house (FOH) personnel to guarantee the timely production of quality food.
  • Support Catering Chefs by supervising on-call BOH cooks and other support staff as needed, effectively leading the team during events in the absence of catering chefs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to self-manage and lead others with integrity, always considering the department's mission and community reputation.
General Duties
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance and care of all catering and kitchen facilities and equipment.
  • Obtain and maintain a Middlebury College Driver's License for operating vehicles such as vans and box trucks.
  • Possess knowledge of event flow and the ability to adapt to changes on short notice.
  • Be willing to learn the basic functionalities of Middlebury Catering's Catertrax platform.
Experience Requirements

A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant cooking, kitchen, and restaurant experience is required.

Physical Requirements
Must be capable of lifting 10-20 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally with assistance. The role requires prolonged periods of standing and frequent walking, along with bending and reaching. A high level of activity is expected throughout the shift, which may exceed 8 hours. Work shifts can occur at any time of day, seven days a week. Adherence to professional standards in attire and grooming is mandatory, and punctuality is crucial.
