ROLE SUMMARY:
The Aquatic Safety Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring a secure swimming environment in accordance with established YMCA standards. This position is vital for fostering a safe and engaging atmosphere for all members, promoting their safety and involvement.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Shifts available include:
- 4:45 AM - 10:00 AM
- 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM
- 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
LOCATION:
This role will involve working at various YMCA facilities within the community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain vigilant observation of the aquatic area.
- Address member inquiries and guide them to appropriate program areas.
- Assist with swim instruction and oversee deck activities as required.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, adhering to YMCA protocols, and complete necessary documentation.
- Consistently apply safety regulations and maintain accurate records as mandated.
- Conduct thorough inspections of the pool area prior to assuming lifeguard duties.
- Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of necessary supplies.
- Monitor water conditions and conduct chemical testing as needed.
- Participate in all staff meetings and training sessions.
- Foster positive relationships with members and fellow staff.
- Wear the designated uniform, including Lifeguard Shirt and appropriate gear.
- Exhibit emotional resilience and interpersonal skills to maintain professional boundaries and respect diversity.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Required certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.
- Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain physical and mental readiness as per certification standards.
- Demonstrated lifeguard skills in line with YMCA expectations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to perform all essential lifeguard duties.
- Ability to hear alarms and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
- Remain alert and attentive throughout shifts.
- Ability to observe all areas of responsibility effectively.
