We are seeking a highly skilled Lifeguard to join our team at the City of Somerville. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere while promoting and maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities- Closely monitor activities related to the pool area, identifying any safety issues throughout the shift.
- Supervise swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
- Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and water safety policies.
- Administer first aid in the event of injury, rescue swimmers in distress or in danger of drowning, and administer CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
- Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
- Perform all maintenance as assigned.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- 0-1+ years of experience as a Lifeguard.
- Experience interacting with people of various ages with diverse backgrounds.
- Must be 16+ to apply.
- First Aid/AED certification.
- Required: American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard certification (or similar).
This position requires some agility and physical strength, such as moving in or about construction sites or over rough terrain or standing or walking most of the work period. Occasionally, work may require lifting heavy objects and carrying them. There may be a need to stretch and reach to retrieve materials. Usually, the work will require extended physical effort over a significant portion of the workday.
