Job Summary

The City of Somerville seeks a highly skilled Safety and Training Officer to join its team. This role is responsible for the overall management of the Water and Sewer Department's safety, health, and associated training programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement safety programs in areas such as accident investigation and prevention, motor vehicle safety, confined space, hearing conservation, ergonomics, and OSHA mandated programs.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Design and disseminate safety policies, procedures, and information.
  • Provide research and technical expertise on safety and health issues, programs, and topics.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents, including responding to locations, preparing reports, and conducting interviews.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of training programs, including safety and professional topics.
  • Conduct building, work site, and equipment inspections, and collect and maintain accident and injury statistics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a closely related field.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in safety or health, with 1-3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30-hour training for construction and general industry, and OSHA Confined Space Entry Training.
  • Valid Class D driver's license.
  • Successful pre-employment physical examination.
