Bilingual Community Engagement Coordinator

The City of Elgin is looking for two enthusiastic and skilled Bilingual Community Engagement Coordinators to enhance our outreach initiatives. This position is vital for fostering connections within our diverse communities.


Key Responsibilities:

Community Outreach:
Develop and nurture relationships with community partners, including multicultural organizations, through effective communication and outreach strategies. Organize and implement community engagement events and programs to boost participation.

Translation Services:

Deliver precise translation and interpretation services between English and Spanish, ensuring clarity and preserving the original message's integrity.


Content Development:

Create captivating written and visual content in both English and Spanish for various platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and press releases.


Visual Media Production:

Produce engaging visual content, including photography and videos in both languages, ensuring high production standards and alignment with the organization's messaging.


Media Coordination:

Support media relations by preparing bilingual press materials, coordinating interviews, and addressing media inquiries as necessary.


Cultural Awareness:
Provide insights and guidance to ensure communications are culturally relevant and resonate with diverse audiences.
Other responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
Experience in photography, video production, graphic design, and multimedia content creation.
Familiarity with social media platforms, analytics tools, and Adobe Creative Suite.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Demonstrated creativity and self-direction while collaborating with various groups and agencies.
Effective public speaking and presentation abilities.

Qualifications:

Required:
Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken.
Strong written and visual communication skills with the ability to create engaging content for diverse platforms.
Experience in bilingual communications, community engagement, or a related field.
Experience with social media management and content creation.
Willingness to occasionally work non-traditional hours for event coverage.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse communities.

Preferred:
Experience in bilingual communications, community engagement, or a related field.
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related discipline.
Proficiency with photo and video editing and production software.

Additional Information:


This role involves sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and negligible force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, grasping, repeated manual dexterity, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is necessary for expressing or exchanging ideas verbally; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is needed for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
