We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Camping Program to join our team at Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri. This is a full-time position responsible for managing all aspects of program delivery for the camp pathway, including development of an integrated program delivery plan that focuses on overnight camp and outdoor adventure programs.
Key Responsibilities- Manage all aspects of program delivery for the camp pathway, including development of an integrated program delivery plan.
- Interview and hire all seasonal staff for Camp Tuckaho and sustain and grow camper participation in the Council's overnight camp programs.
- Live on the grounds of Camp Tuckaho throughout the Overnight Camp season (late May-August).
- Work in collaboration with other Senior Managers to provide a coordinated program and consistent implementation of all camping programs.
- Design, develop, and implement Camp Tuckaho overnight camp programs and large-scale camp trainings.
- Serve as on-site camp director of Camp Tuckaho Overnight Camp.
- Design, develop, and implement outdoor adventure programs, ensuring that related program components are consistent with national curricula and grade level.
- Work with the Answer Center to troubleshoot issues and provide an efficient process for members.
- Operate two camping program cost centers within approved resources and provide acceptable explanations for any material variances.
- Ensure camp program activities meet developmental, educational, emotional, and social needs and interests of campers.
- Prepare and maintain camp operations to meet American Camp Association standards for accreditation.
- Develop and manage program budget for areas of responsibility; order supplies and/or services in compliance with Council purchasing procedures.
- Supervise all seasonal and camp-related program staff and/or volunteers for overnight camp, including recruitment, selection, placement, training, development, and release.
- Lead development and implementation of training for seasonal staff and high adventure staff.
- Promote a positive work environment and high staff morale through staff communication and development activities.
- Support organizational diversity and fund development goals of the Council.
- Maintain Core Competencies standards.
- Consistently demonstrate a climate of courtesy, respect, and professionalism to caregivers, staff, volunteers, members, and the public.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in camp operations.
- Strong human relation skills and organizational, recruiting, report writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to create, develop, and implement camp program and resources.
- Ability to motivate volunteers and staff by good team and relationship building skills.
- Strong recruiting skills (e.g., campers, volunteers, resource persons, seasonal staff members, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of overnight camp operations and American Camp Association accreditation process and standards or willingness to learn.
- 2+ years working at camp or in similar environment with youth.
- Ability to work independently, under limited direction, exercising judgment and initiative in making decisions within Council operations, policies, and procedures.
- Day/weekend/evening availability and agrees to live on the grounds of Camp Tuckaho throughout Overnight Camp season (late May-Aug).
- Red Cross Adult/Child CPR/AED certification.
- Red Cross First Aid certification.
- Level 1 Site Specific Outdoor Adventure certification or willing to obtain.
- Frequently required to sit and operate a computer.
- Frequently required to talk and hear, stand and walk, sit and use hands to manipulate and feel.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Must have the following vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
- Is required to drive/operate an automobile.
