Job Summary

The Domestic Violence Advocate is a critical role within our organization, responsible for providing direct and supportive assistance to survivors of domestic violence. This includes monitoring, crisis intervention, supervision, safety measures, and leading educational/support groups. The ideal candidate will employ a trauma-informed approach to effectively support survivors, aligning with the standards of our shelter and outreach programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to client needs in the shelter
  • Provide case management assistance to clients
  • Complete intakes within the given timeframe
  • Create and facilitate psycho-educational groups, classes, and house meetings
  • Answer the 24-hour hotline and provide crisis support and advocacy as needed
  • Record calls in the Phone Log book
  • Chart all pertinent information, including client interactions and document progress toward achieving goals
  • Coordinate transportation and hotel services for victims when needed
  • Ensure facilities are ready for new clients
  • Complete necessary documentation for clients, including assessments and consent forms
  • Provide crisis intervention support to clients
  • Create and maintain client files as needed
  • Complete and track monthly outcomes and reports as requested for grant purposes
  • Provide ongoing information during staffing regarding individual issues and concerns
  • Maintain supportive, professional relationships with all staff, volunteers, and students
  • Participate in QI activities
  • Complete other duties as assigned by Leadership
Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Basic knowledge of trauma
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes
  • Demonstrates good judgment and discernment in dealing with people
  • Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively
  • Completion of internal DV training
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
  • High school education and two years of professional history or three years of professional experience
Employment Requirements
  • Successful completion of background check, including criminal record, driving record, abuse/neglect, and fingerprint check
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation at the beginning of employment
  • All training requirements, including Relias, at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter
  • Current driver's license, acceptable driving record, and current auto insurance
Physical Requirements

Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods.
