About the Role

The Development Manager is a key position at Jewish Family Services of Western New York, responsible for advancing the organization's mission through effective fundraising efforts and donor engagement. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to lead fundraising initiatives, foster relationships with donors, and manage development projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fundraising and Donor Relations
    • Develop and implement annual fundraising plans to meet revenue goals, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic objectives.
    • Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners, building trust and loyalty through personalized engagement.
    • Create and execute strategies to expand the donor base, including major gifts and planned giving initiatives, leveraging the organization's impact and mission.
  • Solicitation and Proposal Development
    • Prepare and present compelling proposals to secure major gifts, highlighting the organization's programs and services that align with donors' interests and giving capacity.
    • Coordinate the solicitation process, including making direct asks, to ensure a seamless and effective donor engagement experience.
    • Collaborate with program staff to create tailored proposals and presentations that showcase the organization's impact and value proposition.
  • Event Planning and Coordination
    • Plan and execute fundraising events, including annual galas, donor appreciation events, and community fundraisers, to engage donors and raise awareness about the organization's mission.
    • Manage event logistics, including venue selection, vendor coordination, and budget management, to ensure a successful and memorable experience.
    • Work with marketing and communications teams to promote events and ensure high attendance, leveraging social media and other channels to reach a wider audience.
    • Evaluate event success and identify opportunities for improvement and increased revenue, using data and insights to inform future fundraising strategies.
  • Donor Stewardship and Cultivation
    • Develop and implement strategies for donor stewardship, ensuring a high level of donor satisfaction and engagement through regular communication and personalized interaction.
    • Build and maintain a portfolio of major donors, ensuring regular and meaningful interaction, and acting as the primary point of contact for major donors, providing updates and addressing inquiries.
    • Arrange and facilitate meetings, site visits, and events to enhance donor engagement, and work closely with the communications and marketing team to develop materials that showcase the organization's impact and success stories for donor engagement.
    • Regularly communicate with donors to provide updates on the impact of their contributions, and monitor donor engagement metrics to adjust strategies and enhance relationships.
  • Development Team Leadership and Administration
    • Supervise and mentor development staff, fostering a collaborative and goal-oriented environment that supports the organization's fundraising goals.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute a comprehensive development strategy aligned with the organization's fundraising goals, setting annual targets and monitoring progress towards these goals.
    • Work closely with the development team, board members, and volunteers to maximize fundraising opportunities, providing guidance and support to colleagues involved in major gift activities.
