Role Responsibilities

As a Pre-K Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will inspire a passion for learning in our youngest students. Our classrooms are designed to promote curiosity, achievement, respect, and empathy. You will work collaboratively with a teaching team to create an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Instructional Duties
  • Implement a rotating schedule to teach both performing arts and Spanish to two pre-K groups.
  • Develop a curriculum that aligns with the general education thematic units.
  • Collaborate with leadership to establish a performance schedule.
Assessment and Support
  • Engage in weekly meetings with your director to review student work and assessment trends.
  • Utilize differentiated instruction strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Classroom Environment
  • Adopt instructional models in partnership with instructional coaches to ensure academic success.
  • Leverage various data sources to inform daily instructional decisions.
  • Foster positive early-learning experiences that promote a love for school.
  • Support holistic development across social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic domains.
  • Employ diverse strategies to enhance both conceptual understanding and skill acquisition.
  • Encourage expressive and receptive language development throughout the day.
Community Engagement
  • Assist with classroom coverage as needed.
  • Build strong relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and supported.
  • Collaborate with families to provide necessary resources for student success.
  • Participate in professional development and mentorship opportunities.
  • Contribute to school-wide activities, including morning arrivals and student assemblies.
  • Work with your teaching partner and grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional practices.

Experience Requirements
  • Interest in making a difference in the lives of pre-K-12 students in urban settings (1-2 years preferred).
  • Strong background in early childhood education.
  • Experience in music or performing arts.
  • Preferred proficiency in Spanish.
  • Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution prior to employment.
  • Eligibility for New York state certification is required, with a commitment to pursue certification if not already obtained.
