Position Overview
As a Pre-K Spanish and Music Educator at Uncommon Schools, you will inspire a passion for learning in young students from the outset. Our educators create a dynamic learning atmosphere that promotes curiosity, achievement, respect, and empathy (CARE). Our classrooms are designed to be engaging, intentional, and playful, fostering a community where teachers uphold our core values of respect and diligence while celebrating each student's individuality and laying the groundwork for their academic journey. Each classroom is led by a collaborative teaching team, comprising a lead teacher and an apprentice teacher.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Implement a rotating schedule to instruct two pre-K cohorts in both performing arts and Spanish.
- Develop a comprehensive scope and sequence that aligns with the thematic units of general education.
- Collaborate with the director to establish a performance calendar.
- Engage in weekly meetings with your director to analyze student work samples and assessment trends.
- Adopt and apply strategies to differentiate instruction for diverse learners in your classroom.
- Execute the instructional model and collaborate with the instructional coach/director to ensure students meet academic and performance objectives.
- Utilize various data sources (assessments, classroom observations, etc.) to inform daily instructional decisions.
- Provide early learning experiences that foster positive attitudes towards school, teachers, and community.
- Support children's growth across social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and academic domains.
- Employ a range of strategies to enhance both conceptual understanding and skill development.
- Facilitate children's expressive and receptive language development throughout the school day.
- Assist with classroom coverage as necessary.
- Build meaningful relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and heard.
- Collaborate with families to ensure resources are available to support their children's educational needs.
- Participate in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions.
- Contribute to morning arrival, lunch duty, student assemblies, class transitions, and after-school dismissal.
- Engage in weekly, school-wide meetings to foster community, exemplify our core values, and promote student achievement.
- Work alongside your teaching partner and grade-level team to set academic goals and refine instructional strategies.

- Preferred proficiency in Spanish.
- Must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution prior to employment. Certification is not mandatory for hiring, but candidates must meet New York state certification eligibility requirements.
- Teachers are required to enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher during employment if they do not hold a degree in education.
- Uncommon Schools educators must achieve certification in New York state within a reasonable timeframe after starting employment.
