Customer Service Banking Representative

Position Summary
This is an entry-level position within the banking sector aimed at developing skills in transaction processing, sales, and customer service. The role involves being a versatile team member capable of executing transactions, delivering exceptional service, and providing consultative advice to enhance the sales potential of each customer interaction. Responsibilities include accurately processing transactions while simultaneously introducing relevant products, services, and digital solutions tailored to customer needs, thereby encouraging customers to deepen their relationship with Synovus. The position also entails identifying customer requirements and recognizing opportunities for cross-selling and up-selling. The individual will play a crucial role in expanding and maintaining customer relationships, contributing to the financial success of the branch. Additionally, the role serves as the initial line of defense against fraud and risk management. A commitment to customer satisfaction is essential, with an expectation to embody the Customer Covenant consistently. Typically, approximately 80% of the role involves transactional and service-related tasks, while 20% focuses on sales and relationship-building activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greets customers to foster connections and build rapport, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere in the branch.
- Evaluates customer needs, educates them on digital strategies, and directs them to the appropriate service areas or banking representatives.
- Handles a variety of customer transactions in compliance with established policies and procedures, ensuring high accuracy and efficiency while maximizing sales opportunities. Addresses customer inquiries and resolves issues professionally, thanking each customer for their business and treating them as valued clients.
- Manages cash and currency, balancing the cash drawer at the end of the day and reporting any discrepancies. Accepts and verifies deposits, ensuring accurate processing.
- Actively listens to customers to understand their financial priorities, promoting relevant bank products and services accordingly.
- Enhances customer relationships by referring clients to branch team members or Synovus partners for additional sales opportunities. Engages in proactive outreach during sales campaigns.
- Participates in daily team meetings, sales training, and other activities to support bank initiatives and product knowledge sharing.
- Adheres to operational standards, policies, and regulatory guidelines to mitigate risk. Maintains vigilance in recognizing and reporting potential fraud.
- Exhibits professionalism in appearance, punctuality, and conduct, ensuring a tidy and organized workspace.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risks within their functional area, observing all relevant policies and regulations, and reporting any known or suspected violations promptly.
- Performs additional related duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months of customer service, sales, or related experience, or completion of one year of college/vocational school in lieu of work experience.
- Understanding of banking operations, policies, and federal regulations.
- Familiarity with banking products and services.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Aptitude for consultative selling.
- Strong listening and comprehension abilities to identify customer financial needs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to establish rapport with clients.
- Attention to detail with the ability to manage time effectively and multitask.
- Mathematical proficiency.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Prior experience with cash handling is preferred.
- Knowledge of banking operations, policies, and federal regulations.
- Familiarity with banking products, services, policies, and procedures.
