Position Overview:

The Tax Compliance Analyst plays a crucial role in assisting the Federal and State and Local Tax Managers with the preparation and evaluation of tax submissions, as well as conducting research and strategic planning necessary for a multinational insurance and insurance agency holding company. This role may also involve addressing Partnership tax issues as needed. The AmTrust Tax Department offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring employees to be present in the Downtown Cleveland office from Tuesday to Thursday, while allowing remote work on Mondays and Fridays. A proactive self-starter with exceptional communication abilities is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare corporate non-insurance tax returns along with supporting documentation, including federal and state non-insurance income tax returns.
  • Ensure the accuracy of returns and resolve any diagnostic challenges that may hinder the electronic submission of federal and state income tax.
  • Assist in the formulation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions for non-insurance subsidiaries, adhering to ASC 740 (previously Statement 109: Accounting for Income Taxes).
  • Draft responses to inquiries from federal and state tax authorities, including notices, assessments, audits, and examinations.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive tax compliance calendar and audit schedules, preparing estimated payments, extension requests, annual reports, and various other filings.
  • Leverage technology to investigate tax laws, regulations, and guidelines to accurately report to tax authorities and identify potential planning opportunities.
  • Develop and sustain technical expertise in federal, partnership, state, and local tax legislation and regulations.
  • Gather information and prepare various indirect tax filings, such as sales and use, property, franchise, and other indirect tax submissions.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Accounts Receivable to assess the taxability of specific purchases, utilizing the Vertex Sales and Use Tax automation system.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with OneSource Income Tax or comparable tax preparation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Detail-oriented and organized individual.
  • Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Capable of producing thorough and detailed workpapers supporting various tax returns.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • Advanced qualifications such as CPA designation or Master's in Tax preferred but not mandatory.
  • 2 to 4 years of tax experience in public accounting or industry, or an equivalent combination of experience is required.
