Job Overview

The Solar Project Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the Illinois Solar for All Program, which is designed to extend the advantages of solar energy and the clean energy sector to underserved communities throughout Illinois. This position is essential in overseeing the evaluation, assistance, and continuous performance monitoring of Approved Vendors engaged in the development and installation of eligible solar initiatives.

The Coordinator collaborates with various internal and external teams to manage project submissions and approvals, ensuring compliance with program standards and conducting quality checks on solar photovoltaic installations. Strong organizational skills are required to handle multiple priorities, intricate data, technical processes related to solar installations, and vendor interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Vendor Management Team to provide expert, individualized support to Approved Vendors, ensuring comprehensive understanding and adherence to program protocols and technical specifications.
  • Facilitate daily communications with vendors, delivering timely updates and addressing inquiries effectively.
  • Ensure that all solar projects comply with program requirements, coordinating with relevant entities to confirm adherence to state, local, and technical standards.
  • Review and oversee vendor registration applications and project documentation, including solar system designs and data analysis in line with established guidelines.
  • Lead assigned project initiatives, ensuring successful completion within defined scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to uncover trends, identify risks, and highlight areas for enhancement.
  • Provide technical expertise to vendors and colleagues, resolving complex issues and suggesting innovative solutions.
  • Create and present training materials for junior analysts, enhancing their technical and project management capabilities.
  • Identify and address significant project risks, proactively developing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Initiate and lead process improvement efforts to enhance project efficiency and quality.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge and best practices within the team.
  • Stay informed on emerging industry trends and assess their potential impact on ongoing projects.
  • Assist in the creation of training resources and opportunities for Approved Vendors to deepen their understanding of the program and streamline project reviews.
  • Support the Program Management team in the ongoing development and maintenance of operational manuals and procedures to meet program objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to keep project data and communications up to date, including digital content and responses to technical assistance inquiries.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance knowledge in current solar photovoltaic processes and technologies.
  • Participate in inter-departmental meetings and contribute to other organizational activities as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant technical field such as renewable energy, sustainability, finance, or energy engineering.
  • A minimum of four years of experience in solar project management or energy management.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish) are preferred.
  • Strong customer service experience is preferred.
  • NABCEP certification or experience in solar PV installation training is advantageous.
  • Solid understanding of solar-related regulations, standards, and practices is required.
  • Familiarity with solar design tools such as Helioscope or PVSyst is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications is required.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills to address project challenges independently.
  • Capacity to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with precision.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
