Position Overview

Sargent & Lundy is in search of an engineer with expertise in conducting solar photovoltaic (PV) energy yield evaluations for large-scale solar initiatives to bolster our expanding solar energy assessment division. This role within Sargent & Lundy's Consulting group entails the following responsibilities:
  • Execute solar resource evaluations utilizing both satellite and ground-based data.
  • Analyze production and performance metrics alongside climatic data from solar installations.
  • Perform comprehensive long-term solar PV energy generation assessments employing PVsyst and Excel-based analytical tools.
  • Primarily concentrate on utility-scale solar evaluations while also supporting projects across various scales, including residential, commercial, and industrial.
  • Forecast energy output.
  • Conduct uncertainty assessments to ascertain probabilities of exceedance (e.g., P90, P95, P99).
  • Implement statistical uncertainty analyses and clipping adjusted degradation assessments.
  • Draft technical due diligence reports and convey findings to clients and key stakeholders, including developers and financiers.
  • Integrate suitable PV modeling assumptions and inputs into simulations.
  • Engage with clients to address technical inquiries regarding solar resources and energy yield.

In addition to executing PV energy yield evaluations, the candidate will also be expected to assist S&L's independent engineering and technical due diligence services for project financing or asset acquisition of new solar projects. Typical tasks may include:
  • Assessing solar equipment selections and technologies.
  • Reviewing project execution strategies from EPC contractors.
  • Evaluating project agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), EPC, and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contracts.
  • Analyzing project CAPEX, OPEX, and performance metrics within financial models.

Additional responsibilities may encompass:
  • Preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables such as reports, studies, and calculations.
  • Collaborating with team members to establish project execution strategies.
  • Monitoring project timelines and budgets.
  • Managing multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Interfacing with clients to comprehend requests and ensure successful project execution.
  • Drafting proposals for new business development opportunities.
  • Occasionally traveling to project sites and client offices.
Work Arrangement

This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring in-office attendance three days a week.

Qualifications

Note: We do not provide sponsorship for work authorization in the U.S. for this role.

This position necessitates a bachelor's degree in engineering and a thorough understanding of solar resource assessment and energy yield prediction methodologies.

To qualify, candidates should possess over three years of experience in the solar sector, including one or more of the following:
  • Experience in the design of utility-scale solar projects.
  • Prior experience as a renewable energy consultant.
  • Experience in conducting renewable due diligence services.
  • Experience in performing uncertainty and statistical data analyses.
  • Proficiency in utilizing data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy project execution and financing.

Equally important are:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in drafting technical reports and proposals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to guide and collaborate with others.
  • Project planning and leadership capabilities.
