About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Solar Engineering Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for reviewing PV and ESS projects design, providing technical expertise in interconnection, construction, and commissioning of distributed energy resources (DERs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and provide technical input on PV and ESS projects design, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Electrical Engineering to develop and implement department initiatives and process improvements.
  • Specify and review equipment shop drawings for switchgear, transformers, reclosers, and other major electrical equipment.
  • Perform advanced electrical modeling to coordinate system protection, determine fault-duty ratings, calculate arc-flash hazards, and run step/touch grounding analysis.
  • Manage scope of work for 3rd party electrical engineers, including studies, protection coordination, power flow, arc flash, step/touch grounding analysis, PSCAD and PSSE modeling, and substation design.
  • Support the Grid Integration and Design Engineering team in the development of commercial, industrial, and community-scale PV+ESS designs.
  • Review, analyze, and interpret utility pre-screen reports, System Impact Studies, Interconnection Service Agreements, and utility negotiations.
  • Witness test procedure review, code interpretation, protective settings development, and implementation of non-wires alternatives, selective curtailment, and other grid-edge technologies.
  • Train and mentor junior engineering personnel, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Complete project design reviews, including review of single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and site layout designs for compliance with code, best practices, and utility requirements.
  • Respond to RFIs on active construction projects as required.
  • Provide technical support to commissioning, including review of medium-voltage equipment tests and factory tests, development of mitigation plans for non-performance, and certification of mechanical completion on construction complete projects.
  • Provide technical support to development, EPC, and O&M departments for the entire life cycle of a project, including development, permitting, construction, and asset management phases.
  • Lead new product research and implementation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and best practices, ensuring a high level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
Requirements
  • 7+ years of electrical engineering experience, with 4+ years of PV experience.
  • PE License REQUIRED (IL+).
  • Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE standards for grid connected distributed generation, and NESC.
  • Conduct power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash analyses.
  • Extensive experience with solar interconnection coordination with utilities in New England and New York markets.
  • Experience with capacity testing, record modeling, and closeout documentation on solar projects.
  • Experience mentoring and providing guidance to internal junior engineers or third-party engineering firms to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of engineering best practices for construction.
  • CAD and/or BIM proficiency is a plus.
