The Childhood Inclusion Advocate plays a crucial role in fostering individualized support and inclusion for young children facing disabilities and mental health challenges. This position involves continuous assessment and collaboration with educational teams to ensure optimal learning environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct classroom assessments to facilitate the achievement of IFSP outcomes and IEP objectives, identify children needing additional assistance or referrals, and provide overall support to promote effective inclusion practices.
  2. Evaluate IFSP and IEP documentation to ensure that curriculum adjustments and learning settings are tailored to meet the unique needs of each child; offer guidance and support to teaching teams to enhance inclusive methodologies.
  3. Collaborate with Child Development Coaches, Mental Health Consultants, Early Intervention specialists, ABA Behavior Technicians, and Special Educators to provide assistance to educational teams for designated children and classrooms.
  4. Deliver in-classroom support during transition phases or specific routines to enhance the inclusion of children with developmental delays or disabilities, offering real-time coaching and reflective practices for educators.
  5. Work alongside classroom teams and Child Development Coaches to develop, revise, and implement Social-Emotional Support Plans that cater to individual children's needs and classroom dynamics.
  6. Recommend classroom resources that support children identified with disabilities, developmental delays, or behavioral challenges.
  7. Assist the Disabilities and Inclusion Manager in overseeing mental health and disability services to ensure compliance with relevant performance standards and licensing requirements.
  8. Engage in case reviews, center meetings, and leadership discussions to present observations, data, and recommendations as necessary.
  9. In partnership with Disabilities and Inclusion and Workforce Development Managers, contribute to planning and recommending training opportunities related to mental health, disabilities, and inclusion.
  10. Participate in special initiatives focused on inclusive practices and mental health support.

  12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience working with children aged 0-5 in educational or community environments.
  • Familiarity with Head Start, Early Head Start, Early Intervention, special education services, and mental health or ABA services for young children is essential.
  • Experience working with children with developmental delays, disabilities, behavioral or mental health needs, and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder is required.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field is preferred.

Relevant experience of 5-8 years may be considered in lieu of a degree.
