We are currently seeking a Paralegal/Legal Assistant II to contribute to the mission of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). Key Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in evaluating case materials, including the collection and analysis of relevant information, and preparing summaries of key decisions and legal references.
  • Draft, revise, and review non-legal documents, correspondence, and research reports.
  • Support trial preparation by organizing exhibits and creating statistical charts and visual aids.
  • Conduct interviews with potential witnesses and compile summary reports of these interviews.
  • Review legal documents to verify the accuracy of citations and legal references.
  • Participate in pre-trial meetings to assess case materials for completeness and address any discrepancies.
  • Prepare summaries of witness testimonies and depositions during and after trial proceedings.
  • Investigate case facts and applicable laws, and conduct searches of public records to prepare cases and ascertain causes of action.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a Paralegal Certificate or a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a legal or governmental environment, preferably in paralegal/legal assistance roles.
  • Experience with trial preparation and automated litigation support is preferred.
  • Ability to understand the structure and functions of the organization.
  • Knowledge of basic legal research methodologies, including standard legal citation practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, including proficiency in legal writing.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and familiarity with other common software applications, including databases and legal research tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service with a positive and adaptable attitude.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team environment while maintaining a high standard of work quality and professionalism under pressure.

Additional Information

This position mandates U.S. Citizenship and requires a comprehensive background investigation lasting a minimum of 7 (or 10) years.
