Job Summary

The Sleep Laboratory Coordinator coordinates the daily operations of the Sleep Laboratory at Baylor Scott & White Health. This role is accountable for monitoring and assessing Sleep Lab quality, policies, and procedures, staff, and equipment performance. The coordinator communicates and educates patients and families regarding sleep disorders and treatments. They consult with referring physicians regarding patient results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Polysomnographic Studies: Performs polysomnographic studies in a clinical setting, including oxygen and nasal continuous positive airway pressure titrations.
  • Score and Report Studies: Scores studies and formulates reports for physician interpretation. Documents all pertinent patient events according to department policy.
  • Communicate Patient Information: Communicates instructions, results, and relative information to patients, physicians, and family members.
  • Maintain Equipment: Calibrates and performs routine and troubleshooting maintenance on equipment, contacting manufacturers for repairs as needed. Notifies proper personnel for equipment problems. Cleans all equipment ensuring infection control.
  • Consult with Medical Director: Consults regularly with the Medical Director regarding patient studies.
  • Quality Improvement: Maintains standards for completeness of Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Control measurements.
  • Train and Develop Staff: Orients and trains new Sleep Lab employees.
  • Implement Performance Improvements: Establishes and implements performance improvements, including education and staff development.
  • Communicate Concerns: Communicates concerns and/or problems with possible solutions to the Department Manager or Director.
  • Policy and Procedure Manual: Maintains a current and complete Policy and Procedure Manual.
Requirements
  • Advanced Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of Polysomnographic Care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to read, write, and follow flow chart protocols as appropriate.
  • Critical Thinking: Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both orally and in writing.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to follow established safety, infection control, and isolation procedures at all times.
  • Multi-Tasking: Able to proportion multiple demands and respond to time constraints.
  • Audio and Video Equipment: Ability to maintain and troubleshoot audio and video equipment.
  • Computer Skills: Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.
