POSITION TITLE: Manager, Communications & Media Relations
REPORTS TO: Senior Director, Communications
SUMMARY: Become part of a creative, supportive, and results-oriented communications team. This position will serve as AGA's primary media contact, responsible for engaging with journalists and developing strategies to foster relationships with the media, thereby enhancing AGA's media presence. This role will also involve planning and executing promotional campaigns aimed at both members and the public for AGA content. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in media relations, exceptional oral and written communication skills, a commitment to achieving successful outcomes, and a positive, proactive attitude.
Duties and Responsibilities
Media Relations
- Act as the main internal liaison between AGA and the media for both proactive and reactive media inquiries.
- Compose press releases, media alerts, and pitches to journalists regarding AGA's scientific findings, guidelines, events, and positions.
- Establish and nurture relationships with journalists while expanding our media contact database.
- Maintain a speakers' bureau of physician spokespersons.
- Oversee the public relations agency managing the Digestive Disease Week (DDW) Newsroom.
- Monitor, track, and promote media coverage, sharing significant placements with the team and the public.
- Design and implement promotional strategies to highlight AGA's scientific contributions, clinical guidance, and member resources.
- Generate newsletter articles, web content, email blasts, and social media updates.
- Update the website with new content using the content management system.
- Assist team members with content development, email campaigns, video projects, social media initiatives, and other tasks as assigned.
- Develop and implement methods for tracking and assessing the success and impact of communication strategies for assigned projects.
- Provide proofreading support, reviewing documents for style, grammar, clarity, and length prior to public dissemination.
- Experience in health, medical, or scientific communication.
- Strong media relations experience with demonstrated success in securing news coverage. Agency experience is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail along with strong organizational and writing skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and media platforms (e.g., MuckRack).
- Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
