Library Services Associate

Starting Salary: $17.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5-hour work week, including at least one evening per week and alternate Fridays and Saturdays.
Position Overview: The Library Services Associate is responsible for a variety of essential library functions, both at the service desk and behind the scenes. This role involves regular interaction with patrons and requires proficiency in automated library systems for various administrative tasks.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED, along with post-secondary coursework, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in keyboarding and filing, with a minimum of two years of experience in a library setting. Language skills in Polish, Spanish, or other languages spoken by patrons are preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcomes visitors and assists them in utilizing library resources; addresses inquiries or directs them to the appropriate staff member; manages incoming phone calls.
- Implements library policies and procedures.
- Retrieves materials for patrons or staff as needed.
- Participates in meetings and/or training sessions as required.
- Supports the onboarding process for new employees.
- Handles circulation desk operations; performs database tasks as necessary, including compiling statistics and generating reports for departmental use.
- Manages circulation processes such as checking out, renewing, and returning items, collecting payments, and registering patrons, as well as overseeing opening and closing procedures.
- Inspects returned materials for damage, performs repairs, and documents actions in the database.
- Processes damaged and missing items, inter-library loans, and claims for returned/not taken items.
- Maintains the organization of materials by shelving, shifting, sorting, and reshelving items in their correct order.
This position involves regular bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling; lifting print and other materials, office equipment, and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as the ability to transport a reasonable quantity of materials within or outside the library. Standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods may be necessary. Travel between library branches and other locations may be required.
