Schedule: This is a part-time role (28 hours per week) that requires availability for at least one evening each week, along with alternating Fridays and Saturdays.
Required Qualifications: A Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution is mandatory; relevant professional library experience is advantageous. Proficiency in Spanish, Polish, or another language commonly spoken in the community, in addition to English, is beneficial.
Key Responsibilities: The role involves executing professional library functions to guarantee that patrons have access to information and library resources that cater to community needs. Responsibilities may encompass material selection, information organization, program development and execution, instruction, research, reference services, and reader's advisory under the supervision of a Department Head. The position demands professional responsibilities that require decision-making, independent judgment, and a comprehensive understanding of library science along with specialized knowledge in the relevant area.
General Duties Include:
- Designing and implementing strategies to enhance access to and utilization of library materials.
- Engaging in collection development by selecting new acquisitions and removing outdated materials from the library.
- Conducting reference interviews and addressing inquiries in person, via phone, email, and written correspondence. Employing a diverse array of print and digital resources, including electronic databases and the Internet, to find suitable information.
- Providing reader's advisory services to connect patrons with materials that align with their interests.
- Enforcing library policies, rules, and procedures while assisting in evaluating their effectiveness and contribution to customer service.
- Representing the library at various meetings and workshops.
- Carrying out additional related tasks as assigned.
