Middle School Academic Leadership Director

About the Role

The Academic Team is integral to Democracy Prep's Charter Management Organization, collaborating closely with school leadership and the Academics Team to enhance student growth and proficiency, ensuring that all schools meet their academic objectives by the end of the academic year. The Middle School Academic Leadership Director is tasked with supporting school leaders throughout the network and collaborating with CMO Team members to guarantee that academic instruction and the overall educational experience are of the highest quality in all middle school classrooms across Democracy Prep. This role involves analyzing data across the network to pinpoint critical factors that drive outstanding academic results and partnering with school leaders, curriculum specialists, and other key CMO leaders to implement these strategies. The director will set the vision and enhance outcomes for the middle school program across the network.

  • A lifelong learner committed to continually expanding their knowledge of educational pedagogy, standards, and instructional practices.
  • An innovative thinker who is solutions-oriented and creative, willing to explore unconventional approaches to promote academic excellence for all students.
  • An academic authority well-versed in all aspects of educational pedagogy, including standards, assessments, lesson design, and execution.
  • A graduate of a Bachelor's degree program (required).

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Academic Team Leadership to establish a vision for the team and communicate that vision to various stakeholders within the CMO and schools.
  • Drive results by monitoring data related to key performance indicators (KPIs) concerning overall middle school performance.
  • Engage with middle school leaders across the network to foster commitment to our strategic plan and vision for academics. Work closely with the Middle School Managing Director and Regional Superintendents to support middle school leaders throughout the network.
  • Coach Academic Team members to assist school leaders in achieving academic excellence.
  • Oversee strategic initiatives related to middle school curriculum and instructional systems.
  • Support effective instructional systems such as grading, lesson internalization, assessment, and data analysis across Democracy Prep elementary schools.
  • Plan and implement professional development for school leaders and teachers throughout the network, aligned with the initiatives outlined in the strategic plan.
  • Ensure that tutoring at the middle school level is robust and aligned with high-priority standards, utilizing rigorous instructional materials.
  • Meet regularly with school leaders, curriculum specialists, and the Academic and Schools team to identify and implement instructional priorities at each of the network's middle schools, while determining network-wide priorities and initiatives.
  • Identify and address obstacles to high-quality instruction in middle school classrooms across the DPPS network.
  • Collaborate with the Academic team to enhance collective knowledge of best practices in elementary education instruction.
  • Assist curriculum specialists in the creation, sourcing, and editing of high-quality assessments and curricular materials.
  • Ensure that middle school students across the DPPS network have ample opportunities to engage with state exam materials throughout the academic year.
  • Develop plans for the implementation of high-quality curricula with the Academics Team, working with school leaders and the schools team to ensure fidelity in execution for the benefit of students.
  • Consistently analyze data across middle school academics to identify and replicate successful practices while addressing areas of concern.
  • Collaborate with the Academics team to ensure sufficient progress is being made in students' academic achievement levels in relation to network-wide KPIs.
