Job Overview


Under the guidance of the Director of Planning and Environmental Affairs and the Airport Planning Manager, the Senior Airport Planning Specialist will execute essential airport planning responsibilities to facilitate both short-term and long-term strategies on and off the Airport premises. This role will involve assisting senior planners with various projects and program initiatives related to intricate planning and environmental challenges, as well as contributing to the creation and evaluation of planning documents. Collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders will be a key component of this position.


This role is part of a diverse team and may include additional related tasks as assigned.


The Bureau of Planning and Environmental Affairs (BPEA) supports various airport divisions and promotes the Airport's objectives both on-site and in the broader community.

Key Responsibilities


You will:

  • Assist in conducting complex planning and programming studies and airport development strategies to further the Airport's goals, while overseeing tasks and assignments carried out by other personnel and technical consultants.
  • Assess methods to enhance Airport facilities for more efficient utilization of airside and landside resources, ensuring that facility development aligns with projected demand.
  • Lead teams of consultants and staff in revising the Airport Layout Plan, aviation activity forecasts, simulation models, and other planning documents in accordance with FAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Prepare presentations on airport planning and programming initiatives for Airport leadership, internal teams, and external partners.
  • Compile and analyze airport operational data to evaluate the viability of capital improvements, development programs/projects, and optimal use of Airport assets.
  • Interpret and clarify legal, technical, and procedural elements of airport planning and related FAA regulations to stakeholders.
  • Support BPEA's comprehensive programs and functions, including the development of project and contract budgets, scopes, and timelines.
Qualifications


Minimum Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution AND four (4) years (8,000 hours) of verifiable full-time equivalent experience in urban, city, regional, or related planning environments.
  • OR
  • A master's degree from an accredited institution in City, Regional, or Urban Planning, or a closely related field AND two (2) years (4,000 hours) of verifiable full-time equivalent experience in urban, city, regional, or related planning environments.


Special Condition:
Additional Requirement:
Two (2) years of recent and verifiable experience in airport or aviation planning.

Desirable Qualifications


Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to airports is preferred. Candidates should possess:

  • The ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to strategic and operational impacts on airport facilities.
  • Experience in supporting specialized planning studies and collaborating effectively with external agencies and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with both the public and technical professionals.
  • A keen attention to detail and a sense of urgency to drive tasks towards project completion.
