The City and County of Denver presents a competitive salary that reflects your education and experience, with a salary range of $65,523 - $108,113 per year. Full-time employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including:

Work Environment

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid work model, allowing employees to work on-site and remotely as needed. Employees are required to work within the state of Colorado during remote days.

Key Responsibilities

The Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) department is seeking a Senior Accountant to play a vital role in supporting its mission. The department is committed to exceptional customer service and improving the health of the community through innovative programs and sustainable environments.

As a Senior Accountant, your responsibilities will include:
  • Applying the City's Fiscal Accountability Rules and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Conducting routine reconciliations of point-of-sale systems to identify and correct discrepancies in the financial system
  • Managing asset registration, transfers, and disposals, and assisting with annual physical inventory
  • Analyzing revenue reports from concessionaires to ensure accurate payments
  • Generating financial statements and reports for departmental use
  • Researching funding sources for errors and preparing correcting General Ledger entries
  • Overseeing the accounts receivable process for specific programs
  • Assisting in the annual budget preparation
  • Providing training to field staff on the City's Fiscal Accountability Rules and financial processes
  • Delivering excellent customer service to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Performing additional duties as assigned
Qualifications

  • Experience in various accounting functions, including revenue and expenditure analysis
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Proven ability to manage financial records with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with Workday is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Demonstrated ability to establish consistent standards and processes
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local government legal requirements
  • Strong ethical conduct and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent customer service skills
Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Experience: Three (3) years of professional accounting experience involving reconciliation of discrepancies and financial reporting
  • No substitution of experience for education is permitted
  • Additional education may be considered in lieu of experience
