About the Community Economic Defense Project (CEDP) & CED Law
Our Mission
We collaborate with economically disadvantaged and working individuals to foster economic and racial fairness. Our approach involves addressing economic exploitation and promoting community wealth through a diverse array of legal, economic, and advocacy strategies aimed at dismantling inequitable systems, striving towards a society where everyone has the resources necessary to thrive.
About Our Organization
The Community Economic Defense Project (CEDP) is a nonprofit organization based in Colorado. Established in 2020 as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our organization was created to assist individuals in maintaining housing stability during challenging times. We have developed a comprehensive approach to tackle eviction, foreclosure, and homelessness prevention, focusing on the legal and financial needs of families facing housing insecurity.
Currently, our team supports over 1,000 individuals monthly, integrating the expertise of housing attorneys, economists, data analysts, policy specialists, organizers, and technology experts to assist our clients. Over the past two years, we have allocated more than $100 million in assistance and aided over 40,000 residents of Colorado. Our efforts have also played a crucial role in the enactment of significant legislation aimed at preventing eviction, curbing economic exploitation, and reducing the costs of essential services and medications. CEDP's operational model has been recognized as a best practice by prominent institutions.
In addition to our eviction prevention initiatives, CEDP has broadened its service offerings to include disaster response, predatory towing issues, debt collection, benefit access and navigation, long-term rental support, and homelessness intervention. These services provide a comprehensive support system that encompasses advisory services, targeted financial assistance, legal support, and advocacy participation.
