Position Overview:
The individual will oversee all elements of tax compliance and tax accounting, which includes conducting tax research and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage government-required tax submissions for Highmark Health and its subsidiaries, ensuring adherence to both internal and external deadlines.
- Ensure the accurate completion and submission of tax filings, maintaining detailed documentation to support all calculations.
- Prepare necessary forms and attachments related to tax filings utilizing appropriate software tools.

- Identify tax-related issues and opportunities, providing recommendations to Tax Management.
- Oversee tax provisions (GAAP & STAT) for Highmark Health and its subsidiaries, ensuring timely completion in accordance with deadlines.

- Conduct essential calculations supporting tax provisions, including current calculations, deferred roll forwards, and effective tax rate reconciliations, while maintaining thorough documentation.

- Ensure accurate financial statement disclosures and identify tax issues, offering solutions to Tax Management.

- Engage in tax research and planning to ascertain tax implications and effectively communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.

- Responsible for tax forecasting for Highmark Health and its subsidiaries, ensuring accurate calculations and documentation.

- Manage federal and state/local examinations, representing Highmark Health before government authorities as needed.

- Collaborate with Tax Management and subsidiaries in regular meetings to discuss business and tax matters.

- Assist Tax Management with external audits and provide guidance to other Tax Staff.

- Stay informed about changes in tax legislation at all levels to advise on potential impacts.

- Conduct research on various tax-related publications and provide relevant information to affected parties.

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required; 6 years of relevant experience may substitute for degree. Preferred: Master's Degree in Business Administration or Taxation.
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years in tax specialization, including project leadership experience. Required: Tax accounting (ASC 740), compliance, and planning experience in corporate tax or public accounting. Preferred: Auditing or statutory accounting experience.

- Knowledge: Understanding of federal and state tax regulations, GAAP, and SAP. Ability to integrate tax knowledge with accounting principles to assess transaction impacts.

- Certifications: None required; CPA or licensed attorney preferred.

Work Environment:
- Office-based position with occasional travel requirements.
- Physical demands include lifting up to 10 pounds regularly and 10 to 25 pounds occasionally.

Compensation:
- Pay range: $78,900.00 - $146,000.00, determined by qualifications, experience, and contributions.
