Position Summary
Under the general oversight of the shift supervisor, the Campus Safety Officer II is responsible for executing all tasks associated with the daily safeguarding and security of the Boston College community, including students, staff, faculty, guests, and visitors. This role may encompass additional duties as designated by the Executive Director of Public Safety or their representative.
The primary objective of this position is to maintain the safety and security of the Boston College community through:
- Conducting visible patrols within administrative buildings, residential areas, and university grounds.
- Providing a security presence in university facilities.
- Opening and securing university buildings according to established schedules.
- Preventing, detecting, and reporting violations of university policies and regulations.
Compensation and Work Schedule
This position is eligible for overtime pay and is structured as a 40-hour workweek over 39 weeks. The hiring range for this role is $18.22/hr to $22.79/hr, with the pay rate commensurate with relevant experience.
Qualifications
Candidates should possess a high school diploma and a minimum of two years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and military or security experience, particularly in a campus setting. Additional requirements include:
- A valid driver's license.
- Exceptional customer service skills, along with strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in using email, word processing documents, and other departmental computer systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- College-level coursework in security, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Knowledge of security operating systems.
This position is classified as Essential Personnel, requiring work during emergencies, holidays, weekends, and various shifts, including overtime. Candidates with felony convictions or offenses related to specific Massachusetts General Laws will not be considered for employment. Successful completion of all criminal and departmental background checks, as well as physical and psychological evaluations, is mandatory.
