General Summary

A Victim Support Services Coordinator is responsible for executing the Sheriff's Victim-Witness Assistance Program by delivering immediate crisis intervention, court assistance, social service referrals, community outreach, and educational training. This role involves collaborating with various law enforcement and criminal justice entities to ensure effective program operations.

Essential Functions
  • Facilitates support and guidance for survivors, victims, and witnesses of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other vulnerable crimes, including transportation to necessary services;
  • Coordinates program activities with law enforcement and justice system segments to enhance operational effectiveness;
  • Maintains partnerships with external agencies to provide technical support and service coordination;
  • Delivers educational presentations to law enforcement, educational institutions, and community organizations;
  • Responds to emergency situations, assisting victims and witnesses during evenings and weekends as per on-call policy;
  • Tracks and maintains statistical data pertinent to the Victim-Witness Assistance Program;
  • Implements policies to ensure the smooth operation of the Victim-Witness Assistance Program;
  • Offers psychological and emotional support to victims and witnesses during interviews with legal representatives;
  • Collaborates with the Restitution unit to align the Restitution and Victim-Witness Programs;
  • Conducts assessments with victims and witnesses to determine service needs and effectiveness;
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work, or a related discipline;
  • Minimum of three years of experience in victim advocacy or law enforcement preferred;
  • Familiarity with victim-witness program objectives;
  • Understanding of the Criminal Justice System processes;
  • Knowledge of applied sociology and psychology principles;
  • Proficiency in data collection methodologies;
  • Effective public relations skills;
  • Competence in crisis counseling and direct service delivery;
  • Ability to work within the Sheriff's Office goals and integrate them into actionable plans;
  • Capability to navigate the court system and adhere to social work values and ethical standards;
  • Skill in fostering cooperation among diverse individuals;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and provide crisis intervention;
  • Capacity to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
  • Proficient in following verbal and written instructions;
  • Effective communication skills across various socio-economic levels;
  • Ability to provide direct support to victims as necessary.
Other Requirements
  • Successful completion of an oral board, polygraph, and background check is mandatory;
  • This position is classified as safety-sensitive, requiring random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Work is conducted in both office and field settings;
  • Incumbents assist clients in various environments, including private residences and public venues;
  • Attendance at meetings and interviews may occur outside standard business hours.
