Position Overview

The Middle School Educational Support Specialist is dedicated to fostering a positive learning environment for diverse student populations. This role emphasizes the importance of personalized teaching approaches, cultural awareness, and the integration of technology in education. The specialist is committed to nurturing students' academic and emotional development while collaborating with a team of educators to implement effective instructional strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to students in grades 6-8, focusing on their individual learning needs.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, offering necessary accommodations.
  • Engage in regular collaboration with faculty, staff, and the learning support team.
  • Analyze educational assessments and guide faculty in applying insights from learning profiles.
  • Identify students requiring additional assistance and coordinate tailored learning plans.
  • Maintain open communication with families and external support services regarding student progress and challenges.
  • Enhance students' skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Assist students in developing effective study habits across various subjects.
  • Work with small groups and individual students both inside and outside the classroom setting.
  • Adapt classroom instruction to cater to the diverse needs of learners.
  • Participate in lunch, recess, and special course coverage as needed.
  • Attend faculty and team meetings to contribute to collaborative efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Education to establish and maintain Individual Education Plans.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Division Director.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Special Education, with a focus on Learning Disabilities preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of full-time teaching experience is required.
  • State Certification in Special Education is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of various learning styles and differentiated instructional methods.
  • Ability to manage diverse responsibilities within a supportive educational community.
  • Demonstrated success in fostering high achievement in the classroom.
  • Effective communication skills to build rapport with parents and stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience in interpreting psycho-educational evaluations to address student needs.

Work Hours:

  • Full-time position during the academic year.
  • Weekly faculty and department meetings scheduled after school hours.
