Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Assistant Principal of Student Services, the Learning Specialist assumes a vital role in collaborating with teaching teams, acting as a liaison for families, and providing targeted instruction to students with diverse learning needs. This position is essential in ensuring that all students achieve both academically and socially through the application of data-driven strategies tailored to individual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized instruction to support students with disabilities within the general education framework.
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers to create inclusive service models that leverage combined expertise.
  • Utilize both push-in and pull-out service models to enhance sensory, cognitive, and motor skills.
  • Design and implement curriculum modifications and assessments aligned with IEP and 504 plans.
  • Lead Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) meetings to evaluate student needs and develop intervention strategies.
  • Engage students in rigorous, project-based learning experiences that align with academic standards.
  • Assist in the development and execution of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  • Drive academic success through data analysis and differentiated instructional methods.
  • Prepare and implement lesson plans that cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Incorporate technology tools to enhance instruction and student engagement.
  • Participate in IEP meetings to ensure compliance with educational standards.
  • Regularly assess student progress and maintain accurate records for monitoring and communication.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Build positive relationships with families, maintaining regular communication and involvement in the educational process.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth and reflective practice.

Qualifications

  • New York State certification in Students with Disabilities is required.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Certification as a Restorative Practitioner or Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a plus.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification is preferred.
  • High energy and a personable, engaging demeanor are essential.

The compensation for this role ranges from $69,000 to $98,500 annually, complemented by a comprehensive benefits package. Additionally, a sign-on bonus of $5,000 is offered, distributed over the first year of employment.
