Position Overview:
The Environmental Chemist II/III/Sr at Ahtna Solutions, LLC is a remote role requiring approximately 20% travel for field assignments. The preferred candidate will reside in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States.

Role Summary:
The Environmental Chemist will deliver expert technical support in environmental chemistry for various remediation and monitoring initiatives.

Utilizing a comprehensive understanding of the behavior and movement of organic and inorganic substances in environmental contexts, the chemist will contribute to project planning, field operations, and reporting.

As a Project Chemist, responsibilities may include overseeing sampling and analysis strategies, quality assurance project plans, laboratory selection, conducting field assessments, collecting analytical samples, managing data quality, and evaluating data usability.

The chemist will manage multiple projects and clients simultaneously, necessitating strong communication skills.

Prioritization, ownership of tasks, efficient work habits, and maintaining high-quality standards in a demanding environment are essential.


Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $64,659/year to $124,665/year, reflecting the tiered nature of the role.

Key Responsibilities – All Levels:
- Conduct analytical data reviews in the laboratory (applicable to Levels II, III, and Senior).
- Analyze and interpret chromatograms.

- Develop Sampling and Analysis Plans, Quality Assurance Project Plans, Data Quality Objectives, and Data Quality Reports in compliance with Federal and State regulations.

- Liaise with environmental laboratories to ensure compliance and implement corrective action plans.

- Oversee site investigations and assessments following regulatory guidelines.

- Adhere to project schedules and financial constraints.
- Manage time and resources effectively to meet project objectives.
- Stay updated on relevant literature and documentation.
- Enhance the company’s reputation by taking ownership of team performance and contributing value to tasks.
- Provide scientific and technical support to project teams.

- Review and document environmental standards and regulations to ensure compliance.

- Create visual representations of data to summarize environmental relevance.
- Demonstrate data management skills by entering chemical data into various databases.
- Identify suitable analytical methods for field surveys.
- Fulfill safety responsibilities and quality requirements.
- Implement process improvements and track changes to project scope and schedule.

Level-Specific Responsibilities:
Level II:
- Assist program and project managers with client relations, project scope, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Maintain expertise in 1-2 technical areas.
- Lead project teams in both office and field settings.
- Execute technical projects and prepare documentation, including peer reviews.
- Contribute to task orders and project proposals.
- Provide technical mentoring.
- Fieldwork may constitute 30% - 50% of responsibilities, potentially in remote locations.
Level III:
- Support program and project managers with client relations, project scope, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Maintain expertise in 2 technical areas.
- Lead project teams in both office and field settings.
- Oversee technical project execution and documentation, including peer reviews.
- Contribute to task orders and project proposals.
- Manage smaller projects involving site characterization and long-term monitoring.
- Fieldwork may constitute 20% - 40% of responsibilities, potentially in remote locations.
Senior Level:
- Assist program and project managers with client relations, project scope, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Maintain expertise in 2-3 technical areas.
- Lead technical project execution and documentation, including senior reviews.
- Prepare task orders and project proposals.
- Manage projects involving site characterization and long-term monitoring.
- Fieldwork may constitute 10% - 25% of responsibilities, potentially in remote locations.

Minimum Qualifications:
All Levels:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
- Ability to articulate technical aspects of fieldwork effectively to clients.
Level II:
- 3 to 5 years of relevant experience; advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
Level III:
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience; advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
Senior Level:
- 8 or more years of relevant experience; advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
- Previous experience in staff management is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
- ADEC Qualified Person.
- 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Experience with Federal clients.
- Experience in database creation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of risk assessment and toxicology.
- Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures.
