Job Summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist to lead our environmental remediation efforts. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing environmental remedial investigation and stratigraphy projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage environmental remedial investigation and stratigraphy projects, including planning, execution, and delivery
  • Develop and implement holistic conceptual site models, integrating complex data sets and communicating effectively with stakeholders
  • Conduct research and analysis of regional geology and depositional environments, providing expert advice on project sites
  • Apply Environmental Sequence Stratigraphic (ESS) methodology to complex data sets, ensuring accurate and reliable results
  • Collaborate with project hydrogeologists to evaluate potentiometric data, define hydrostratigraphic units, and understand contaminant fate and transport implications
  • Plan and develop stratigraphic cross-section profiles, performing stratigraphic interpretation of subsurface data
  • Create and communicate geologically based conceptual site models, ensuring effective stakeholder engagement
  • Assess soil and groundwater data, identify data gaps, and develop appropriate sampling plans
  • Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and feasibility studies for clients and industry publications
  • Lead the preparation of work plans, investigation reports, feasibility studies, remedial design, and implementation
  • Participate in project schedule, scope, budget, staffing planning, and construction planning
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the environmental engineering practice, mentoring and guiding less experienced Geoscientists
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or related Environmental degree from an ABET accredited program
  • Master's of Science in Geology with an emphasis in a stratigraphic discipline preferred
  • Minimum 7 years environmental consulting experience (preferably 10 years)
  • Professional Geologist (PG) license preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of geoscience software, including Adobe Illustrator, Rockworks, Leap Frog, Openground, and ArcGIS
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training (and annual updates) required
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA, CERCLA, and remedial design
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Phase I/II Environmental Site Assessments and/or site investigations
  • Experience with and working knowledge of State and/or Federal regulations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience leading large projects and delegating work tasks to team members
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
