Overview:


The Respiratory Care Practitioner II is a mid-level professional with foundational assessment and therapeutic skills across various patient demographics, and advanced expertise in specific areas or age groups.

This role demands a higher level of knowledge, skills, and abilities compared to the Respiratory Care Practitioner I, as evidenced by successful completion of the registry examination.

The Respiratory Care Practitioner II is expected to operate with a professional demeanor, managing most situations related to respiratory care with minimal oversight.

Clinical Practice - Administers respiratory care therapies, diagnostic services, and leads team members when assigned charge with proficiency.

Regularly integrates knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure optimal patient care.

Responsibilities:


Consistently conducts clinical evaluations of the pulmonary system with accuracy, developing a care plan that aligns with departmental protocols and clinical guidelines.

Delivers respiratory therapeutic interventions with high proficiency, completing over 90% of work assignments with minimal assistance. Effectively manages time in organizing work and triaging tasks. Establishes and oversees mechanical ventilation using commonly utilized ventilators (both invasive and non-invasive) with expertise and minimal supervision. Demonstrates proficiency in setting up, operating, and performing critical care duties associated with all mechanical ventilators utilized within the facility.

Implements ventilation weaning strategies, regularly refining the ventilator care plan and communicating findings and recommendations to the patient care team with high proficiency.

Accurately documents all relevant data and charges in the patient's medical record following service completion, consistently sharing findings with healthcare team members in accordance with organizational standards.

Conducts EKGs in line with departmental policies and procedures. Adheres to departmental protocols for collecting, reporting, and documenting blood specimens for interpretation with high proficiency.

Maintains an understanding of various oxygen delivery methods, including necessary equipment, potential side effects, and appropriately follows oxygen protocols.


Education:
Provides educational support to patients and/or family members as needed. Successfully completes all departmental, hospital, and system competencies required for the job category within the designated timeframe.

Complies with new hospital and departmental initiatives/policies, stays informed by reviewing communications, attends at least 50% of staff meetings, and raises concerns to management.

Collaborates effectively as a team member, demonstrating a positive attitude, cooperation, and strong communication with colleagues, patients, and other healthcare team members.

Recognized by peers and supervisory staff as collaborative and supportive, with no more than one substantiated complaint from staff/co-workers during the evaluation period.


Qualifications:
Graduate with a certificate of completion from a Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education (JRCRTE) program.

BLS certification required.

ACLS, NRP, and PALS certifications required within six months of hire.

Registry from the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (if registry eligible at the time of employment and holding CRT designation, one year will be granted to achieve registry). After one year, the individual will be classified as an RCPI until registry is successfully completed.
