Overview:


The Respiratory Care Practitioner II (RCP II) is a mid-level professional with foundational assessment and therapeutic capabilities across various patient demographics, alongside advanced skills in designated areas or age groups.

The RCP II is anticipated to possess a higher level of knowledge, skills, and abilities compared to the RCP I, following successful completion of the registry examination.

The RCP II is expected to routinely operate and interact as a professional, managing most situations related to respiratory care with minimal oversight.

Clinical Practice - Administers respiratory care therapies, diagnostic services, and other assigned responsibilities while leading team members when designated as charge with expertise and proficiency.

Regularly integrates knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure optimal patient care.

Responsibilities:


Consistently conducts clinical evaluations of the pulmonary system with accuracy and precision, developing a care plan that aligns with departmental protocols and clinical practice guidelines.

Administers respiratory therapeutic interventions and other assigned duties with high proficiency, completing work assignments with minimal assistance over 90% of the time.

Demonstrates effective time management in organizing work and prioritizing tasks.

Establishes and manages mechanical ventilation using commonly utilized ventilators (both invasive and non-invasive) with high proficiency and minimal supervision. Proficiently sets up, operates, and performs critical care duties associated with all mechanical ventilators utilized in the facility.

Implements ventilation weaning strategies, routinely developing or refining the ventilator care plan and communicating findings and recommendations to the patient care team with high proficiency.

Accurately documents all relevant data and charges in the patient's medical record following the completion of any service, consistently communicating findings with healthcare team members regarding the care plan in accordance with organizational standards.

Adheres to departmental collection, reporting, and documentation policies when obtaining blood specimens for analysis with high proficiency.

Complies with new hospital and departmental initiatives/policies, stays informed by reviewing communications, attends at least 50% of staff meetings, and raises concerns to management.


Qualifications:
Graduate with a certificate of completion from a Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education (JRCRTE) program.

BLS certification required

ACLS, NRP, PALS certifications required within 6 months of hire.

Registry from the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (if at the time of employment an individual is registry eligible and has attained CRT designation, they will be given one year to achieve registry. Following one year, the individual will be considered an RCPI until registry is successfully completed.
