Position SummaryThis role involves investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect, ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families within the jurisdiction of the Kalispel Tribe. The incumbent must be knowledgeable about the Kalispel Tribal Law and Order Code, as well as current child welfare legislation and policies regarding abuse, neglect, and mandatory reporting. Responsibilities include conducting interviews, assessing situations involving children and witnesses, and providing expert testimony in court. The position demands the ability to handle challenging circumstances under pressure while making critical decisions that impact the safety of Native children and families. A comprehensive understanding of community relations and cultural sensitivity towards Native American families is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate risks and safety for children while delivering family-centered services. Conduct thorough investigations and possess strong interviewing skills. Maintain accurate client data through regular home or school visits and assist clients in accessing community resources.
- Respond promptly to referrals, conduct investigations, and determine appropriate placement options when necessary. Collaborate closely with the Tribal Care Licensor throughout the placement process.
- Prepare for and participate in court proceedings as the ICW Social Worker or qualified expert witness. Ensure timely and complete legal documentation for court appearances, including court reports, case plans, and safety plans.
- Communicate effectively with state workers, legal representatives, and other Tribal personnel, advocating for clients as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards while working independently or as part of a team.
- Prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain organized client files, including progress notes and legal communications.
- Utilize a culturally sensitive and strengths-based approach when working with clients.
- Comply with all relevant tribal, federal, and state privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- The role necessitates the ability to bend, stoop, lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Significant standing or walking may be required.
