About the Role

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager for Marketing to develop and execute a comprehensive marketing program that promotes the Museum and its programs to audiences in New York, the US, and around the world.

In collaboration with departments across the Museum, you will build both institutional and project-specific marketing strategies and campaigns. You will oversee institutional Met marketing to promote wide-reaching Met organizational activities and the Met brand.

You will develop individual marketing strategies across a portfolio of internal clients to support each of their programming and revenue objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a museum-wide marketing strategy for advertising, print materials, and visitor messaging that reflects the Museum's brand voice and supports individual program and revenue objectives.
  • Provide ongoing stewardship of The Met brand ensuring that all touchpoints reflect the Museum's mission, strategic objectives, and an overall level of excellence.
  • In partnership with the museum's design team, develop and maintain a system of interconnected marketing channels, both traditional and online, for on-site, external, and digital outreach.
  • Oversight of the Museum's advertising agency and development of a comprehensive creative and media plan.
  • In partnership with the Data and Analytics team, develop an ongoing review of key performance indicators and survey data to measure overall brand health, visitor demographic data, and the effectiveness of general and individual marketing programs.
  • Manage all tourism outreach, including the Museum's partnership with NYC Tourism and external conventions.
  • Oversee a 3-person team responsible for brand marketing strategy, advertising, and tourism marketing.
  • Partner with colleagues across the Museum leading media relations, email marketing, social media, and government relations.
  • Partner with leaders across the Museum to develop a marketing program for each area (e.g., Education, MetLiveArts, Digital, The Met Cloisters).
  • Produce print promotional pieces for direct mail and on-site distribution, the Museum's annual report, and additional publications.
  • Manage a range of special projects on an as-needed basis (e.g., capital project messaging, recruit new volunteers, support new public program series).

Requirements

  • B.A. in journalism, Communication, Marketing, or related liberal arts area
  • 5 years of experience in developing effective marketing strategies and campaigns, employing a wide range of marketing tools, including paid media in print, digital, broadcast, and outdoor, email marketing, and social media.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing comprehensive marketing programs, including external partnerships, which have the ability both change brand perception and generate audiences.
  • Strong management experience of a wide range of marketing professionals, including external vendors such as marketing agencies
  • A digital-first thinker: a keen understanding of how social media and digital marketing tools can be used to champion the brand, share information, and collect insights
  • Strong collaborator who understands the complexity of working with multiple leaders and creative teams, and navigating their diverse interests and goals
  • Demonstrated track record of effectively communicating and promoting significant organizational and cultural change at a complex institution or organization
  • High level of attention to detail and consistency
  • A skilled, creative, and nimble writer and editor
  • Knowledgeable about graphic design and asset production, and strong sense of basic design principles
  • Love of arts, culture, and New York City
  • Non-profit or arts and culture marketing experience a plus
  • Strong background in project management
