Job Summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team. As a Research Associate, you will play a key methodological role in the design of research projects and in the explication of them in grant proposals by our faculty.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct power and preliminary analyses for grant proposals;
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data on funded projects with our faculty investigators;
  • Provide mentorship and support to graduate students and professional statistical experts who work on projects with our investigators;
  • Foster a collaborative and collegial culture around quantitative methodology in population science;
  • Have familiarity with other statistics/data science support units and experts on campus to facilitate collaboration.
Requirements
  • Masters degree in statistics, biostatistics, demography, sociology, economics, education, human development, psychology, political science, or a closely related quantitative area, with strong quantitative methodological training;
  • Broad experience in statistical methods (e.g., power calculations, missing data, survey sampling, experimental design) and statistical modeling (e.g., multilevel/hierarchical modeling, categorical data analysis, event history/survival analysis, latent variable modeling, random effects models);
  • Strong programming and data management skills;
  • Expertise in the use of statistical software or programming environments (e.g., Stata, R, SAS, SPSS, Mplus) and the willingness to learn new software/programming environments;
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative research using large datasets;
  • Strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD (or related doctoral degree) in statistics, biostatistics, demography, sociology, economics, education, human development, psychology, political science, or a closely related quantitative area, with experience providing collaborative statistical support to applications for funding and to funded projects at an academic or research institution;
  • Experience in producing data documentation and handling secure/restricted data;
  • Knowledge of causal inference, data linkage, or statistical/machine learning methods;
  • Record of serving as principal investigator, co-investigator, or statistical consultant on federally funded grants;
  • Authorship of collaborative publications;
  • Experience working in a highly interdisciplinary research environment.
