Job Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs various chemical, microscopic, microbiological and hematological tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. This role is responsible for recording laboratory test data, patient and quality control information. The ideal candidate will be actively involved in quality control procedures, review and corrective action and maintain care of expensive laboratory equipment and instruments. Additionally, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist will assist in training new lab personnel, externs and students and carefully handle infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel.

Responsibilities

• Perform various chemical, microscopic, microbiological and hematological tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.
• Record laboratory test data, patient and quality control information.
• Maintain care of expensive laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Assist in training new lab personnel, externs and students.
• Carefully handle infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel.

Requirements

• Current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.
• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field required.
• Ability to work well with other people in times of medical emergencies and in a fast-paced, heavy workload environment.
• Color discrimination required to stain slides and to distinguish various shades and colors of specimens.
• Near-visual acuity required to read detailed instructions and to examine specimens.
• Finger and manual dexterity required to handle specimens and small pieces of laboratory equipment.
