Wound Care Specialist

The Wound/Ostomy Care LVN works collaboratively under the direction of an RN or physician to provide clinical care to patients with wounds, ostomies, and other unique healthcare needs. He/she uses and conducts assessments, participates in developing plans of care, and executes skilled interventions. Provides education to patients and their families, and contributes in evaluating treatment interventions as defined by the care/treatment plan. In addition, if qualified this position administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients, and ensures the safe and effective operations and maintenance of the Hyperbaric Chamber and supporting equipment. The Wound/Ostomy Care LVN works both inpatient and/or in the Wound Care Clinic, including but not limited to direct patient care, administrative duties, and other tasks as assigned, maintaining flexibility to support the department and organization.
Responsibilities
Conducts assessments and participates in developing plans of care for patients with wounds, ostomies, and other unique healthcare needs.
Provides education to patients and their families on wound and ostomy care, and contributes in evaluating treatment interventions as defined by the care/treatment plan.
Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients, and ensures the safe and effective operations and maintenance of the Hyperbaric Chamber and supporting equipment.
Works collaboratively with RNs and physicians to provide clinical care to patients, and maintains flexibility to support the department and organization.
Requirements
Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) License required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Current national certification in wound and ostomy care management preferred.
Additional qualifications needed in order to perform Hyperbaric Treatments include: Successful completion of a National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Technology (NBDHMT) approved hyperbaric medicine introductory course required, or a current Diving Medical Technician (DMT) or Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) certification.
Minimum of 2 years recent acute care LVN or related/equivalent experience is preferred.
Prior experience in wound and ostomy care preferred.
Knowledge of hyperbaric medicine and chamber operations preferred.
Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills.
Strong computer skills and the ability to learn the internal computer systems to ensure proficiency in Microsoft, Google, EPIC, Haiku, Paragon, etc.
The ability to lead/facilitate informal, appropriate educational sessions to patients, families and staff.
The ability to evaluate and treat wound and ostomies, assessing progress of wound and ostomies as they relate to the plan of care and the patient's overall health goals.
The physical and mental health sufficient to accomplish duties of a LVN in the wound and ostomy care field.
Must meet Marshall Medical Center's pharmacology requirements.
Must be flexible for variable start times to support patient care and organizational needs.
Must be willing to cross train to support the Clinic and Hospital staff and patients as needed.
Comfortable with regularly verifying and processing insurance eligibility and obtaining authorization requests, including verifying personal credentials with external partners to obtain this information (e.g., for identity verification for VA insurance coordination).
