About the Role

The Boulder Public Library is seeking a highly skilled Archival Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a vital role in maintaining and preserving our vast collection of archival materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Reference and Research Assistance: Respond to patron inquiries, provide research assistance, and offer guidance on using library resources.
  • Process and Maintain Archival Collections: Assist in processing, cataloging, and maintaining our archival collections, including digital and physical materials.
  • Develop and Support Outreach and Programming: Collaborate with the Archive team to develop and implement outreach and programming initiatives that promote the library's archival collections.
  • Maintain Archival Collections and Facilities: Ensure the safe and secure storage of archival materials, maintain the document storage room, reading room, and offsite storage facilities.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with Technology Maintenance: Troubleshoot and maintain technology used by the workgroup and patrons, including scanners, printers, and microfilm readers.
  • Perform Opening and Closing Duties: Assist with opening and closing library facilities, and provide backup support to colleagues as needed.
  • Communicate Effectively: Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operations, prioritize tasks, and shift attention as needed to complete daily work.
  • Train and Develop Colleagues: Assist in training new employees, substitutes, interns, and volunteers.
  • Ensure Safety and Security: Take proper safety precautions to prevent accidents, report incidents, and maintain a safe and secure work environment.

Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of work or volunteer experience in a library or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • General Skills: Self-directed, collaborative, and demonstrated interpersonal, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Technology Skills: Intermediate skills with using personal computers, performing data entry, and using information databases.
