The Grants Financial Analyst collaborates closely with leadership in the Business Office and designated faculty to oversee financial and compliance operations associated with both sponsored and non-sponsored initiatives. This role involves conducting analyses and forecasting related to business or research patterns, managing the formulation and oversight of departmental budgets, including discretionary and sponsored funds, assessing the costs of business operations, recommending budget modifications, and facilitating the closure of completed grants and contracts. The analyst ensures that all funding is secured and that expenditures remain within budgetary limits, develops financial planning and cost analysis reports, engages with faculty to review compliance with hospital and agency regulations, and performs thorough financial assessments to enhance departmental financial performance and adherence to regulatory standards.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education
A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is required. Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a one-to-one basis.

Minimum Work Experience
At least one year of progressive experience in a related field is required, with a preference for experience in finance, accounting, business, or grants management.

Required Skills/Knowledge
The candidate must possess the ability to identify challenges and devise innovative solutions, demonstrate strong quantitative analysis skills, exhibit excellent verbal and written communication abilities, manage multiple tasks effectively, and maintain confidentiality. Proficiency in personal computing and relevant software, along with solid organizational and management skills, is essential.

Functional Accountabilities
Responsible Conduct of Research

  • Adheres to standards for responsible research conduct.
  • Plans and manages research projects in compliance with federal and institutional regulations.
  • Utilizes research funds responsibly.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Completes all required training and compliance activities annually.
Financial Analysis
  • Analyzes financial data to assess past performance and project future financial outcomes.
  • Evaluates budget performance, investigates discrepancies, and communicates findings to leadership.
  • Monitors expenditures for grants and contracts, ensuring balanced accounts.
  • Prepares financial reports for forecasting and analysis.
  • Identifies and communicates any over-expenditures to faculty and administrative staff.
  • Assists in preparing materials for audit inquiries.
  • Monitors monthly expenditures to ensure timely project execution and analyze budget trends.
  • Supports the fiscal year-end closeout process for grant funding.
  • Investigates expense and revenue variances and communicates necessary adjustments.
  • Manages funding across various portfolios to aid strategic decision-making.
Financial Services
  • Reviews and approves financial charges, ensuring compliance with funding availability and proper authorizations.
  • Ensures accuracy in payroll distributions for staff allocated to cost centers.
  • Prepares necessary budget modifications.
  • Maintains comprehensive documentation for grant-related revenues and expenditures.
  • Completes adjustments for non-payroll cost transfers.
Grants Management
  • Collaborates with principal investigators to fulfill reporting requirements for sponsors.
  • Facilitates requests for ancillary agreements to support grants.
  • Provides financial reporting as requested.
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP and relevant policies for all sponsored awards.
  • Assists investigators with questions regarding awards and strategies for ongoing funding.
Sponsored Programs Management
  • Addresses inquiries from investigators regarding awards and grants management.
  • Reviews payroll distributions to ensure compliance with personnel payment.
  • Approves financial requests based on administrative requirements.
  • Prepares documentation for cost transfers and personnel reallocations.
  • Supports the fiscal year-end closeout process for grant funding.
