Grants Financial Specialist II

The Grants Financial Specialist II plays a crucial role in collaborating with Business Office Leadership and designated faculty to oversee financial and compliance operations related to both sponsored and non-sponsored initiatives. This position involves conducting thorough analyses and forecasts for the assigned portfolio, focusing on business or research trends. The specialist reviews the formulation and actively participates in the oversight of departmental budgets, including discretionary and sponsored funds. Responsibilities include planning and assessing costs associated with business activities, recommending budget modifications, and managing the closure of completed grants and contracts. Additionally, this role ensures that all funding is secured and that expenditures remain within revenue limits, while also developing financial planning, cost analysis, and projection reports. Regular meetings with faculty are held to review compliance with institutional and agency regulations, alongside performing comprehensive financial assessments to enhance departmental fiscal effectiveness and adherence to relevant guidelines.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or a related field (Required). Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a 1-to-1 basis.
  • Minimum Work Experience: 3 years of progressive experience in a related field (Required).
  • Required Skills/Knowledge: Ability to identify challenges and devise innovative solutions, strong quantitative analysis skills, excellent verbal and written communication abilities, capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while handling confidential information, proficiency in computer software, solid organizational and management skills, sound judgment, and experience in grants and financial management systems.

Functional Accountabilities:

  • Responsible Conduct of Research: Adheres to standards for responsible research conduct, manages research projects within regulatory frameworks, and maintains data confidentiality.
  • Financial Analysis: Interprets financial data to assess past performance and project future financial viability, investigates budget variances, and prepares reports to maintain balanced accounts.
  • Financial Services: Reviews and approves charges, ensures payroll distributions are accurate, and prepares necessary budget modifications.
  • Grants Management: Collaborates with principal investigators to fulfill reporting requirements and manage sponsored awards in compliance with applicable regulations.
